There was A LOT of love in the room for Adele, who had to make her way onstage six times to claim the night’s biggest prizes: Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Short Form Music video (all for “Rolling in the Deep”), Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album (both for 21), and Best Pop Solo Performance (for “Someone Like You”). From the beginning, the odds were almost all solidly in her favor to win, despite the stiff competition from her fellow nominees, many of them repeat offenders for the top awards, such Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Mumford and Sons, and Lady Gaga.

The be-wigged Brit beauty seemed in stifled awe most of the evening, and kept her cool until the last prize was announced. Tears finally followed to replace the self-deprecation and sometimes cheeky remarks, albeit always grateful. She now ties Beyonce, of whom Adele is admittedly a huge fan, for most awards won by a female artist in one night.

Adele’s performed her hit, “Rolling in the Deep,” for a very appreciative audience, who gave her a lengthy standing ovation. The recovery from her vocal cord surgey seems to have gone smoothly - the delivery was soulful and flawless, and she appeared at ease and confident. It was a membrable night indeed!

The British singing sensation has garnered four nominations: favorite female artist, favorite adult contemporary artist, favorite album for 21, and the top honor, artist of the year. Her competition is drenched in divas, including Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. Lil Wayne is the only male artists with multiple noms, earning three.

Adele will be up against Lil Wayne and these other aforementioned leading ladies–Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry– for the Artist of the Year category.

The 39th annual American Music Awards will air live on November 20 at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. Until then, you have time to vote for your favorites at the AMA’s official website.

Adele’s album 21 has sold over 2.5 million copies since its debut in January. With hits like “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You,” it’s no surprise that the albums have flown off the shelves. Another reason, Rubin says, is because she’s so real.

“She doesn’t carry any of the baggage of many of today’s pop stars, and it truly is about the music first, and her voice and her lyrics, and baring her soul with what she’s saying. I would say what she makes is her art, and at no time does it feel like product,” Rubin said. “So much of pop music feels like product.”

Another aspect, Rubin says, is the the raw emotions that Adele puts into her songs, which has been inspired by the 23-year-old’s recent breakup.

“She really bared her soul lyrically, and I think that’s what resonating with people – the truth in her lyrics, and the passion in which she tells that truth,” said Rubin.

The changed tour dates include Minneapolis’ First Avenue, which has been moved to June 22, while gigs scheduled in Salt Lake City, Vancouver, Seattle and Portland have been cancelled.

Adele is set to return to the stage on June 4 at the Greek Theatre Berkeley in San Francisco.

The 22-city North American tour kicks off on May 12 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., and wraps up on June 20 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Adele’s second studio album, 21, debuts in the U.S. on Feb. 22. This album is the follow-up to her first studio album, 19, which was released in 2009.

She is not trying to fit into any trend, she just wants to “make good songs.”  While touring the US after the success of her debut album 19, she found herself attracted to the style of Alison Krauss, “I really got into country.  I think they’re the best songs written, just the emotion and lyrics and the way that they sing them.” Adele says the album has developed a bluesy gospel style and is moving forward with what works.

Her second album is being produced by the legendary Rick Rubin.  The album is rumored to be expected in the fall, but no official release date has been announced.

Because the 2010 Grammy eligibility period ran October 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009, Adele’s debut album acclaim is still relevant… clearly. She’s being recognized again for her hit “Hometown Glory,” even as she is working on her second release.

The British songstress acknowledges she’s been taking her time with a follow up to her sublime first effort, having been torn between trying new things and sticking to what her fans have come to love. In an interview with UK magazine BANG Showbiz, she said, “Obviously there are new avenues that I want to go down with the sound and I don’t want to leave behind the fans who might not like the new sound I am going for, so I’m a bit wary of that.”

Fans everywhere will be happy to hear that she is “writing it slowly but surely,” but no release date is in sight.

In the meantime, tune in to the 52nd Grammy Awards, which air on January 31, 2010, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, on CBS at 8pm (EST).

The English songstress showcased her talent and her sultry voice that oozed soul as she sang “Hometown Glory” for an appreciative audience.  She looked lovely in a simple black dress that matched the subtle elegance of her performance.

Adele was one of several of the young female artists honored at the show. Other memorable performances came from Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson and a duet between Jordin Sparks and Martina McBride.  All of these performances, and the show in its entirety, can be viewed online.

Back in February 2009 Adele won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, beating out pop idols the Jonas Brothers and fellow Brit soul singer Duffy. Let’s hope the break and the Grammy win will put the fire back in her belly and we’ll see/hear new material soon!
